It is based on director Aureliano Amadei's 2003 experiences in Iraq and tells about the story of a young anarchist and anti-war activist who fly to Iraq to assist a family friend to make a movie about the Italian military “ peace mission”. It definitely offers a different take on the war in Iraq, it doesn’t discuss the subject as much; it just shows the lightness of the character who leaves for Iraq without knowing anything about it and doesn’t seem to care or understand much about it even when there. I found this movie true, maybe simple but sincere, without political rhetoric. It also shifts comfortably from comedy to drama making laugh and weep some tears. The director used good humor and a great sense for humanity, two aspects that represent Romans very well. Well done Amadei ! I definitely put this movie into the “Not to miss” list. Watch the trailer in Italian here below A presto, Jessica

25/8/2011 0 Comments Italian Film FestivalIt is that time of the year again! The Italian film festival in Sydney will start on the 15th of September! How exciting!!! The movie that will open the festival is Benvenuti al Sud( Welcome to the South) which is an Italian take on the French movie Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis (Welcome to the Sticks) I watched this movie few months ago and loved it! It describes the rivalry between the north and the south in a very light and funny way. We will talk more about this movie in the next few weeks but in the meantime have a look at the programme and see if there ‘s anything you would like to watch. We will soon post the “Not to miss“ movies with our comments and reviews. http://www.italianfilmfestival.com.au/sessions/ |
